Lets do this Monday!

Happy Monday everyone! We’ve been up and adam this morning. Luckily, Bud slept great last night. He had a major spit up session which felt like he emptied everything in his tummy but everything seems that dramatic at 3am. Mothering is definitely the most humbling thing ever but man, there is a sweetness to it that is unrivaled.

Did I mention that Bud is also a pee fountain? He loves to wait until I take his diaper off to start releasing the fire hydrant of urine from his peedle. Thanks dude. I’ve tried to trick him by leaving the old diaper hovering but he’s good… oh so good. He knows exactly when I think he’s done and BOOM! I’ve changed countless outfits and changing table pads… the joys of having a boy.

Today is the first big “test”. Sam went back to work today and it’ll be me and Bud holding down the fort. Sam has been such a rock through everything. He’s been beyond helpful and showing such a servant’s heart that I’ll miss having him around all day… now I’m looking forward to weekends for new reasons! Unfortunately it’s cloudy and chilly today but we’re still going to try and bundle up for a walk (yes, I live in the Pacific Northwest now so I’m having to BUNDLE in the middle of July).  We had our first outing yesterday and went for a walk in the park, so wonderful to get out of the house! I’m going to leave you with some pictures because I have to shove cereal down my throat before Bud gets up.

P.S. Poor kid definitely got his mom’s weird faces.

Not lovin' my big hams in the picture but we had to capture Roy trying to bond with his little brother

See what I mean with the faces?

Have a great day!

Some firsts…

It’s been a crazy week over here in La La Land.

1. When our son was born, we both looked at each other and laughed because he did not look like a Daughtry. He looked like he needed a tougher name so our son has officially been “named”. Welcome to the world Samuel Daughtry Metzler, Junior aka “Bud”. Sam kept calling him that and it sounded so natural. And during labor/pushing I remember talking to him saying, “Ok bud, lets do this together.” So, Bud it is.

2. I had a lot of theories about feeding schedules and sleep schedules. I’m an idiot. This has been the most humbling but incredible experience so far. I’m learning about balancing the schedule with assessing Bud’s needs. Adjustment and flexibility are the words of the day around here.

3. I gave him his first sponge bath yesterday and while you’d think he’d love water, he did NOT like to be bathed. But he did look PRECIOUS in his towel.

4. I thought that I’d never be one of those moms who couldn’t manage to get out of her sweats and put on make-up… until this week. Bud eats, needs awake time, and then sleeps… rinse & repeat. By the time I finish feeding, I swear it’s time for him to feed again. Praise the Lord breast feeding is going well. We had a good night last night where he was only up every 3 hours. I’m soaking up the moments I have with him when everyone else is asleep and we have the greatest conversations. Usually about politics and solving the world’s problems… or how cute baby poots are.

5. I realize developmentally he isn’t smiling at me… probably passing gas but still, he’s smiling at me.

6.  FYI, newborns sleeps when they’re supposed to be awake and are awake when they are supposed to be asleep. Just felt like you should know this fact. This was during his “awake time” this morning…

7. Yes I realize I should be showering instead of writing this blog post while he’s napping. Blurg.

Two became Three!!

I’m alive I promise!! Friday night around supper I started having regular contractions and labored pretty intensely throughout the night. Then headed to the hospital at 10:30am Saturday morning and our son, Samuel Daughtry Metzler Junior came into the world in a hilarious unplanned natural way but so beautiful. I’ll write the full birth story as soon as I have more than 2 seconds without someone on my boob! We love him so much and have been affectionately calling him “Bud”.

Here are some pictures of our little family.

The downstairs

Good morning everyone! It’s July 1st, which mean I will not be having a June baby… super. I’m a week and 2 days overdue. I’ve tried everything in the book to naturally induce and the boy won’t come. I’m over it. I got an email from Baby Center today saying, “Congrats on your baby being 1 week old!”… so naturally I cursed at the computer and searched my house for a cinnamon roll.

Here are some pictures of our new house. The pictures are from the downstairs and I’m officially terrible at taking pictures of rooms. I have no idea how to capture everything in there but here they are!

TV was hubby's anniversary present!

The view from the front door...

Roy likes to hang in the dining room. Very sophisticated dog.

It's 5 o`clock somewhere

Welcome home hubby!

A letter to our son.. a different perspective

Our friends Ashley and John are some of our favorite people in the world. I lived with Ashley through college. John and Sam were immediate friends and have been on many adventures together since becoming friends. They are really special to us and we love them a lot.

They wrote Daughtry an amazing letter and we are printing it off to share with him when he calls us lame for not letting him go out with some hoochie with a side pony tail and  way-too-short cut off jean shorts with pockets hanging past the hem.

Dear Daughtry,

Technically, you were supposed to be here a few days ago, and while we can already tell you’re pretty cool wanting to show up fashionably late, we want you to know that we’re ready for you to get here. We like that you’re already yourself, not doing what everyone expects you to do, and pushing your limits already. That’s a good sign, and even though your momma is really ready for you to get here, we’re proud of you for sticking to your guns.

We get it, we love being cuddled up, in a similar fetal position as you’re in right now, warm, comfy, sleeping, but at some point, it really does get old. And while you may think there is nothing better than where you are right now, your Uncle John and I thought we’d share some reasons why you should really be exciting about getting here.

Some things you have to look forward to:

Hearing stories about your mom in college, like the time her “friends” kidnapped her, hog-tied her, threw her in the back of a truck, and drove away with her bouncing around like a mad woman. Or the time she dressed up like a boy and tried out for a boys glorified glee club. Or how she thought it would be a good idea to try and shoot squirrels with a BB gun (in a neighborhood), and when that didn’t work, call someone with a bow and arrow and try to kill them that way.

You’ll also hear the story about the time your dad and his buddies went up for a weekend trip to the mountains, and almost died in a thunderstorm after drinking lots of (actually, I don’t know if they’ll give that many details), and how your dad ended up getting his car out of a mudslide. Your dad will come up with all kinds of crazy, adventurous ideas that may or may not seem like a good idea at the time, but trust us when we say you will always want to go with him. Always.

Your dad is really excited to teach you how to play football (but not the regular kind of organized football). You should always remember that when in single coverage on a down field route in the sand, don’t cover too tight or you might break your toe. And then you won’t be able to dance with your mom, and she is hilarious to dance with. (I suspect you might have already picked up on some of her dance moves, and you will thank her for that later).

Your mom loves making funny t-shirts – she will plaster any sort of embarrassing, hilarious, awful picture of you on a white hanes t-shirt. She will probably make them for every milestone in your life. And every birthday. And every random celebration you can imagine. Our advice, just get used to it. She’s probably got one for you to put on to celebrate your first day in the world.

You’ll need to learn how to master the grill, so you can be the official camp cook for the HTH. First thing you’ll have to learn how to make is your dad’s signature 7-pepper chicken. Next, chicken parmigiano. You’ll be embarrassed and fascinated to watch your dad sweat while he eats that dish.

I’m sure you realize this already, but your parents are pretty cool. There may be times later when you seriously question this, but it’s true. And anytime you need to be reminded of this, you can always call us and we can tell you lots more stories about how awesome they are. And we promise you your life will never be boring – they won’t let it be.

Now that you know all this, how could you not want to meet them?????

We love you,

Uncle John & Aunt Ashley

Nursery Pictures

Here are some pictures of the nursery! Please don’t send me emails about the stuffed animals and blankets smothering my kid, I promise I’ll remove them when he gets here!

In other news, I went to the doctor today and they said everything is still progressing so I’m really praying we’ll meet our son this week! COME ON BUDDY! I was talking to my friend today about the strange feeling it is that my body and spirit are so on edge because I know I’m about go through something crazy and beautiful but I have no idea when. Even when I pray for peace, my body is still on edge just waiting to feel something. I wake up out of dead sleep just to wonder, “Did I just feel something?! Or was that gas from the 5 oreos I ate before bed?!” So, of course, being a professional in dumb analogies, the closest thing I could think of is: it’s like I’m constantly waiting for a sucker punch. Anyone watch “How I Met your Mother?” Well, remember the slap bet? It’s like CONSTANTLY WAITING ON BEING SLAPPED BY MARSHALL! Enjoy the video and I’ll keep you posted!

40 weeks and 3 days… making the most of it!

Hey everyone… still pregnant as can be over here in the Metzler house. The hubbs and I did have an amazing weekend. We decided that we should really enjoy these last few days of just “us” and luckily, the Pacific Northwest weather actually cooperated.

Saturday my mom decided to drive up to Vancouver to hang out with my brother because he was having an engagement party. So the hottie and I decided to explore downtown Tacoma. The weather was gorgeous and we were craving fresh seafood so we found a restaurant on the water and ate a late lunch. We had the best time just sitting outside eating Mahi Mahi tacos watching sailboats and talking about our fears and excitement about being parents. Then we went on a great walk at Fort Steilacoom Park with Roy and ate some supper. Sunday we got up and worked in the yard some. Then we ran some errands and went for an amazing hike down to the sound. We snapped some pictures of the 40+ week belly and my handsome husband and dog playing together in the sound. We fell asleep last night just praying together about embracing God’s timing for our son to come into this world (ok fine, Sam was praying for ME to embrace God’s timing) and I’m trying to find peace that no matter how much bouncing or eating pineapple, this little one of ours is just going to make his debut when he is ready.

I would say that Roy is pretty happy here!

The 2 and 4 legged loves of my life playing fetch

I will never get tired of the scenery out here. Amazing.

Try to control yourselves people, I know this is a lot of hotness to handle.

On another note, Sam kept laughing about my “pregnancy pose”. He said I look like Vanna White holding my belly, “And here it is, a braaaand neeewww baby!!!” I tried to remind him if I didn’t cock my leg, my thighs would look like 2 roasted hams were in a wrestling match.

Hope you had a great weekend and hopefully we’ll have some great news for yall this week!

Marco….?

Well I woke up this morning laughing. I thought for sure this boy would make his entrance by now. So I laid there in bed playing “Marco Polo” with him. No answer. This kid stinks at this game.

Sam and I went on a really long hike yesterday to the sound and as I was getting dressed, I had to take this picture. Yall- THE BELLY IS OUT OF CONTROL! Don’t worry, I put on a shirt to walk but for real….this belly don’t lie.

On another note, thanks for all of your encouragement yesterday! One of my best friends Kate did a blog post addressing some of my fears. We’ve only know her and Kev for a year and a half or so but they’ve been so amazing  in showing us what making each other a priority looks like. I wanted to share her post with you!

Now… on to more squats!

What was my mantra again?

Well folks, tomorrow is my “due date”.

I use quotations because I know how ambivalent due dates are. It is so funny to me because I was so focused on not having this baby early before the hubbs got here that now I’m afraid he’ll be really late! Sam was praying for me in bed last night because I needed a major attitude adjustment about being so uncomfortable. I asked him to pray for me and the shooting pain down my right butt cheek. Of course his prayers were like water to my soul because they covered so much more than that.

You see, I love my husband. I love our marriage. We have an amazing life together. And I think because of that, some fears started to creep in last night by telling me that having the baby would change our marriage for the worst and that we’d lose what we have. Anybody else have those fears when they were pregnant?

I know that having a baby will ultimately change things, but we’ve just been praying blessings over our marriage that we’d still keep each other a priority, we wouldn’t lose the romance, and we would have grace for each other when we’re tired and covered in baby vomit.

I’m beyond grateful for my husband and I’m beyond grateful to be pregnant. I know that God will burst our hearts even bigger with love for this baby. I just keep remembering my birth mantra, “The opposite of fear is faith” and I’ve been saying it over and over like a crazy person in the subway.

It is a very strange feeling to just be waiting on something so big though! I don’t really feel anything going on down there but I’m definitely getting more and more uncomfortable. Now that Sam has made it home, I’m ready. After my appointment tomorrow, I’ll start some natural induction stuff this weekend and next week! Nothing sexier than a 9 month preggo trying to have sex with her husband all the time, bouncing on the exercise ball, and eating spicy foods… that sounds like a Jerry Springer scene when the camera pans over to introduce the next ever-s0 classy guest.

So in addition to me leaving you with the image of shoving myself in lingerie, bouncing on a exercise ball whilst shoving a burrito in my mouth (you’re welcome)….feel free to send some prayers and good thoughts our way, we’ll keep you posted!
