Hometown Shower

Here are some highlights from the shower that my mom’s best buds  threw for me on Saturday. It was so much fun seeing everyone I had grown up with and my close girlfriends surrounding me giving me great advice on raising a little one. I came home with some serious loot and felt totally undeserving! Son/Sonny/Chip whatever the heck we’ll call him is going to be so loved!

My sweet and oldest friend Eliza came in town for the shower! LOVE her!

A nice shot of my 25 week belly

Precious and yummy cupcakes

A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E cookies that were by the front door as favors

Finally, the AMAZING hostesses! Love yall!

Weird Pregnancy Dreams

1. Last night I kept waking up because I had this awful dream that Roy kept getting eaten by an alligator. Yes, an alligator. Apparently in my dream we were traveling up stream (somewhere really important) and there was an alligator that we came up on. I remembered telling Sam that I wanted to get out of the water and carry Roy (who was really small in my dream) up to the road but he said that the alligator was hurt so it wasn’t going to do anything. Then the next thing I know this stupid alligator woke up and bit chihuahua-sized Roy! The first time I dreamed it he only got Roy’s tail because I went all Xena the Warrior Princess on him and snatched Roy back. But then every time I went back to sleep, the dream kept getting worse. So I just got out of bed and laid down next to Roy on the ground and told him to stay away from alligators.

2. I was with some friends and we had some sort of mission to complete. But, we found out we couldn’t complete this mission because I HAD OVERDUE LIBRARY BOOKS FROM UNC! So, the entire dream consisted of this obstacle course throughout UNC’s campus which I had to complete and get to the library to pay for my overdue books. I remembered finally getting to Davis Library and running inside only to have the whole library turn sideways and turn into a giant slide that goes the wrong way (think American Gladiators) but it was a bunch of books that I was trying to run up!

I’m tired.

Yoga at home!

http://www.yogaglo.com/

I found this site that has been a lifesaver! I wanted to start doing prenatal yoga to give myself a break from walking every now and then throughout the week but REALLY didn’t want to spend a bunch of money on classes. I found this amazing site that is just $18/month for UNLIMITED classes! There are a million different options, not just prenatal yoga. I’ve been using it and love just being able to set my computer up and do yoga in my living room whenever it’s convenient.

Just thought I’d share!

On another note, I was B-L-E-S-S-E-D with amazing baby showers this weekend. I’ll post more on that later!

2 things that made my week

I’ve had a very fun, very busy week. Two of my mom’s best friends came into town and I got to spend some time with them. Monday night I went out to dinner with my Mom and my godmother, Martha. I was named after her and she has been a constant encouragement in my life. But she totally surprised me and gave me my first big baby present! HOLLAA!! She gave us our moses basket! It was GORGEOUS and so special and she topped it off with a sweet book I can’t wait to read to Monkey. She is one of the most thoughtful people I know. I will think about her every time I put our sweet one in his basket to sleep.

Godparents are such a big deal to me and whoever ends up being Sam Jr’s godparents, I know they’ll be such a special part of his life just as Martha is to mine.  Godparents are an important tradition in my family and I know it’s such an important decision for us because of how much Martha did for me. She was at every major event in my life, she took me out for every birthday, she gave me the pearl earrings I wore on my wedding day, and now she has given me my first big baby present. Gotta love that woman!

Then on Tuesday night I got to hang out with Denise who is another best friend of my Mom’s. We went to dinner, put on a fashion show, and while I went to bed, it made my heart happy to hear Mom and Denise up until 1am laughing and talking the night away. There is nothing like girlfriends. Denise gave me the most precious bag filled with goodies for the baby! The funny thing was, the colors were my nursery colors! You can’t tell me this isn’t the most precious thing in the world!

Who is excited it’s FRIDAY?!!!!!! Me and my disappearing belly button will be laying low tonight because we have a fun weekend ahead!

Bedding Reveal!

Good morning friends! I finally decided on some bedding and I’m so excited about it. It’s by Little House and we were able to find a local boutique to order it for us. All of the furniture will be spray-painted white and I’ll just use aqua and orange accents throughout the room. I’ll use the pinwheel fabric for the changing table pad.  I have some sweet friends who are painting things for the nursery because  I really wanted it to be unique and personal. While I realize the wild man will be pooping, vomiting, and tink-tinking all over the nursery and this gorgeous bedding, I can live in La La Land right now that it’ll remain as gorgeous as it is in the pictures. Let me live there for a bit longer won’t you?

The only fabric I now have to hunt down is for my glider. I’m thinking white background with little orange polka dots. Any ideas?

Since I’m not able to “nest” yet, I’m stuck with just dreaming about what the nursery will look like. That whole not having a place to live is cramping my style! But Mama and I go next weekend to Washington to find a house and my stubborn Southern side has claimed that I’m not leaving that state until we have found a place!

Ash Wednesday

Well, it’s that time of year again! Last year I spoke about my appreciation for liturgy and I’ll be headed to the Ash Wednesday service again today. After realizing I literally cannot go ONE DAY without eating candy… stop judging… I’m going to give up candy again for Lent. I did it last year and was rewarded with a giant Easter basket full of Type 2 Diabetes from Hubbs.

So here goes…

P.S. Having a cold while you’re preggo… NOT FUN. I just feel like I should tell you that in case you see me and wonder why I look like I’ve been hanging out with a hybrid of Rick James and Rudolph.

Are yall giving anything up for Lent?

I don’t think you’re ready for this jelly

I was looking at my weekly pictures and I don’t think they fully depict the size of the ol` belly. So I took a shot last night before my walk, a bird’s eye view, and before I went to bed. Here are some true belly shots!

24 weeks and 3 days... worth every inch

Roy doesn't understand why I'm making him wait for his walk

This is what I see while I'm walking... 10 bucks says the shoes are gone by the end of the month

Letter #2 to our Boy

Hey Monkey,

Your dad and I talked over the weekend about what sports we thought you might like, what music instrument you might play, and what we thought your personality would be like. We both hoped that you would love to play music as much as we do. We played music together this weekend and I really think you were listening. I let your daddy’s guitar rest against my body while he was playing and you loved the vibrations. You would just start squirming all over the place but what made my heart so happy is when your dad started singing, you were really rockin` and rollin` in there.

You get stuck hearing me sing every day and so I knew that you’d know my voice but I have been afraid that since your dad has to miss a lot of the pregnancy, you might not know his voice. But as soon as he sang, you started kicking and poking me as if to say, “Rock on Pops! I hear you!”

We can’t wait to introduce you to good music… I hope that you’ll know the lyrics to the Beatles or Patty Griffin or Civil Wars before you know the lyrics to Sponge Bob. I’ve been listening to this song over and over and you seem to like it…

24 Weeks

Here is my 24 week update! I’m feeling large and in charge lately but loving every minute. I got to spend this past weekend with the hubbs and it was awesome but really hard to come back on Sunday. We’ll have to go 3 weeks without seeing each other this time around and I think that made it even harder/emotional to leave yesterday. I can’t wait to have him back home!

Stats:
24 weeks along
6 lbs gained from pre-preggo weight
Sleeping is still hit or miss, but I’m loving my body pillow
Still loving banana peppers, fruit, and frozen yogurt but I’m adding peach ice cream to the mix!
I was on my feet for a long time on Friday and looked down and just burst out laughing at how swollen they were! Sausage feet… nice to meet you. He’s still moving around like a wild man, I bought Sound Beginnings and he just dances like crazy when I put that on. (I’ll do a little post on that later in the week)

Book Review… I hope you don’t have any stones lying around

I’m a bit nervous about this book review to be honest! I liked the book, first and foremost. But, I have a feeling I’m going to get the stink eye, or the “you have officially lost it” look, or just the “you’re an idiot who has never given birth” look.  But here goes:

The book, Supernatural Childbirth by Jackie Mize is quite the the controversial book. It was recommended to me by a friend who I trust. She has had two babies naturally and said this helped her tremendously. I will not lie to you. As soon as I started reading it, I felt my pride, my cynicism, and the lies society has ingrained in me boiling up. Jackie talks about giving birth painlessly, quickly, and without tearing. I immediately thought, “IMPOSSIBLE!”. But then I read about why she believed and prayed those things. She confessed her own doubt and fears, as I did the other week. She decided to believe that God says He’ll keep his promises, that His love casts out fear, and that He wants to give us the desires of our hearts. We can get hooked on “Eve’s curse” but we readily agree that when Jesus came, we were released from the curse of the law… so why not the curse of Eve?

Now, before you think I’m going to start praying to a “vending machine God”, think again. I ultimately submit to God’s will, I know He has the best plan for me, and I’m glad He didn’t listen to some of my prayers over the years… (otherwise I’d be married to Taylor Hanson, starving myself to fit into a gown for the Grammys , and dancing around on some stage being critiqued by Paula Abdul). I’m really glad none of those things happened.

But, when did we become so afraid to believe that God says if we have faith, we can move mountains? My favorite part of her book was this quote, “The opposite of fear is faith”. In all of the natural child-birthing books I’ve read, they all agree that fear is what causes the body to tense up, which leads to the pain that women feel in childbirth. If nothing else, I got some great Scripture from this book that reminds me that I have no need to fear.

I would say that the best parts of this book were the practical prayers they give you, the Scripture they reference that I can say to myself before and during labor, and the encouragement that we, as women, are designed to give birth. It does not need to be a screaming fit that media plays it up to be. It can be a peaceful, empowering experience if we want it to be. I have come to realize with talking to others that a horrible or painful labor can almost seem like a right of passage.

Well, I hope to pass along a new right of passage. A birth that can be peaceful, comfortable, empowering, spiritual, and delightful. I have the privilege of bringing a baby into this world, why make it seem like such a horrible experience?

The only thing I want to add is that if things happen in that delivery room that are out of my control, cause my body stress, or I do tear, my faith will be no less than when it started. When reading any of the birthing books, I always pray that no one feels like a failure if their birth story did not turn out as they had planned. You get to be a part of something beautiful, if nothing else let us rejoice in that. Like most books on this subject, you have to take what works for you and leave what doesn’t.

All in all, I recommend this book for encouragement of your role in the birth process. Jackie and her husband remind the readers that they can have control over what their birth plan looks like, how their mind handles labor, and they can have the power to release their fears and be confident in prayer based on the promises of God. But no matter what your birth story looks like, rejoice in it!

Now, be easy on me with the comments! I’m horomonal and have cut back on my sugar intake!
